How to draw a cartoon stone bridge

Rating: All Ages

In this lesson, we’ll draw a fun cartoon stone bridge step by step. You’ll learn how to build the bridge using simple shapes, then add stone details, texture, and light shading to bring it to life. This is a great exercise for beginners and a fun way to practice drawing backgrounds for your cartoons.

1. Start with basic shapes
Draw a wide arch (like a rainbow) for the bridge opening. Add two vertical sides.
2. Add the bridge top
Sketch a slightly curved line across the top to show the walking path.
3. Build the structure
Thicken the sides and top to give your bridge some weight.
4. Draw the stones
Add uneven, rounded rectangles across the bridge. Keep them imperfect for a cartoon look.
5. Add details
Draw small cracks, gaps, and edge lines to give the stones character.
6. Ground and water
Sketch simple land on each side and a flowing stream or river under the bridge.
7. Final lines
Clean up your drawing with darker lines and erase extra sketch marks.
8. Add shading
Shade under the bridge arch and between stones to create depth. Keep it simple and soft.
