Welcome back to another episode of the Say Yes Anyway podcast, where we dive deep into stories of courage and conviction, featuring individuals who have said "yes" to a calling that might not have made sense at first but felt undeniably right in their hearts. Today's episode is particularly close to my heart as we tackle a subject that's both harrowing and crucial to understand – human trafficking.

Our guest, Heidi Chance, is not just an incredible mother, friend, and wife, but she's also a retired detective from the Arizona Police Department with 25 years of service, including a significant focus on human trafficking cases. Heidi's journey is a testament to saying "yes" to a path laid out by a higher power, and her story is one of resilience, purpose, and the pursuit of justice.

  • Heidi's Personal Connection to Law Enforcement: Heidi shares her background, including how her father's career as a police officer influenced her own path into law enforcement. She recounts compelling stories from her youth that foreshadowed her future in the police force.

  • Transition to Human Trafficking Detective: Discover how Heidi's career evolved from targeting prostitutes to recognizing them as victims of a larger issue. She explains the shift in law enforcement's approach to human trafficking and the importance of understanding the elements of force, fraud, and coercion.

  • The Realities of Human Trafficking: Heidi debunks common misconceptions about human trafficking, clarifying that it's not like what's portrayed in movies like "Taken." Instead, she illuminates the complexities of the crime, including familial trafficking and the challenges faced in bringing traffickers to justice.

  • A Landmark Case: Heidi details a significant case involving seven victims, familial trafficking, and a trafficker with a twisted fascination with dominance and control. She highlights the perseverance required over the five-year period from disclosure to trial, resulting in a historic sentence for the trafficker.

  • The Impact of Pornography: We discuss the destructive role of pornography in fueling human trafficking and the importance of recognizing the humanity of those exploited in the industry.

  • Advice for Parents and Individuals: Heidi offers practical tips for parents to protect their children from potential traffickers and emphasizes the importance of community involvement in supporting victims.

  • Heidi's Continued Mission: Learn about Heidi's post-retirement endeavors, including her business, A Chance for Awareness, and her ongoing commitment to training law enforcement and raising awareness about human trafficking.

This episode is not just about being inspired by Heidi's dedication but also about understanding how each of us can take action in our own lives. Whether it's through educating ourselves or contributing to the fight against human trafficking, we all have a role to play. Heidi's story is a powerful reminder that saying "yes" to our calling, no matter how daunting, can lead to profound change and justice for those who need it most.

Thank you for tuning in, and let's continue to say "yes" to making a difference in the world, one conversation at a time.

Most Vulnerable Part of My Story- How Pain turns to Purpose & Healing Transforms EP: 46

Thu, 05 Oct 2023 15:48:35 GMT

Because of my last Say Yes Anyway Episode conversation with Jake, his vulnerable sharing opened me up to my most vulnerable share i've ever done in my life. Only handfulls of people know about this. So it was scary as I shared!

I almost deleted this part because I thought one day maybe I’d write a book about it and share it when it was planned out.God always has other plans. I am sharing this because I really do believe that it can help many people, and usually the things we don’t want to share at all are what people need to hear the most.Fear of judgement, what people think and being fully known were the main fears I was struggling with before sharing this. Thank you in advance for listening. And if it impacts you in any way, please reach out to me, share this episode, leave a review and I pray it helps you on your journey no matter what you are going through!

This vulnerable story talks about me remembering feeling so numb. Numb to my body. Numb to my emotions. My brain was still really foggy and in a daze.

I had been roofied - drugged. I only had one drink and I don’t remember anything.

I hurt so bad in my body, and the little flashback memory then sunk in and I realized I had been raped. At that point I had kissed many men, yet THIS was the way I lost my virginity. I felt Terrified. Dirty. Shameful.

Since then, 13 years ago, I have found healing and I am grateful to now be able to share this so others can also know they're not alone and continue their healing journey and use their pain for purpose!

Let Love In- The Pain Stops When the Truth Starts with Jake Kauffman EP: 45

Thu, 28 Sep 2023 13:45:57 GMT

Welcome to the Say Yes Anyway Podcast, where we dive deep into personal and spiritual development, guiding you on a journey towards living your most purposeful life. Today I have a conversation with Jake Kauffman, a friend to many, an International Transformation Coach & Spiritual Mentor to purpose driven, visionary men & entrepreneurs who are seeking to grow in their life and leadership.

Why do we sometimes find ourselves stuck in patterns that don't serve us? It's because we've unwittingly crafted false personas over time. Breaking free from these masks takes willpower, and sometimes, our existing mental resources just don't cut it. We have to reach a point where the pain of remaining the same outweighs the pain of change. It's a transformative process, but it's worth every step.

Jake and I talk about his new book, Let Love In, where he shares his most vulnerable story and how he's been able to heal and transform through it! It's powerful! It was also through his sharing his own story on the podcast that even though I was sweaty & shaking, I shared my most vulnerable part of my story with him and it's now here for the very first time for you all to hear. I've only shared with 1-1's and small groups of people or coaching clients to empathize. So listen as this is a raw episode and shows the power of when you show up in vulnerability, you never know how it will give someone else the courage to share theirs as well. Thank you Jake!

Investing in personal development & healing during these challenging times for Jake was a game-changer. It's like building a safety net for your nervous system and the rest of our life.
